Dear Families,

I’m pleased to write today after a wonderful couple of weeks of building that Baldwin School spirit!

Over the last two weeks, I was able to visit each classroom and talk a bit about Maria L. Baldwin, former principal and E.E. Cummings, a former student of Miss Maria Baldwin. Students were ready to listen and learn about who our wonderful school is named after! It was wonderful to see all students in their shirts on Friday. I showed students the wonderful book Enormous Smallness by Matthew Burgess, which is a story of E.E. Cummings. Susan has re-created the pages from the book about Maria Baldwin on a beautiful bulletin board near the main office. Check it out!

We had a great All School Meeting on Friday, just with Baldwin students and staff. We practiced entering and leaving the gym calmly. We practiced elements that help ensure a great meeting for everyone. We talked about two new things: 4th grade drummers in pairs around the gym and 5th grade helpers who will support younger grade classrooms during All School Meeting. We sang the songs with the help of student leaders. Another new addition was piano accompaniment for the Baldwin School Song and we also had some instrumental support during the closing song. These changes will help lay the groundwork for a great All School Meeting in the future. Maybe we’ll see you in January at our next ASM!

Building on the positive energy, we have also brought back High Fives! We give them every Monday to a student in each class in a short and simple “ceremony” just for kids during lunch time, usually on Mondays. Kids who get High Fives will come home with a certificate, a prize and a special High Five bracelet so be on the lookout! We have asked teachers to choose recipients who demonstrate our Core Values: Community, Care, Effort, Joy, and Growth. Mr. Roderick and I love being able to recognize these values each week!

It’s so exciting to get these pieces in place as we go into the break. Our school culture for the year really starts to solidify this time of year and I think we are off to a great start!

With Love,

Heidi
