Teachers Lorna Holland (Cambridgeport) and Richard Kelly (Baldwin) teamed up and introduced woodworking in to JK students in a creative way. Lorna has been doing woodworking for a number of years and Richard is involved in a Science fellowship with UMASS and WIPRO.

After deciding what they wanted to build, the students drew their plans, learned about the trees the wood comes from, tools and safety, and how things are made. Dressed in their aprons, they transferred their ideas from 1D paper drawings to 3D wood structures.

This exercise in woodworking includes all aspects of a S.T.E.A.M  Curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). View the slideshow to see samples of the students' work.
