Our
third grade is a community of learners who enjoy working together. Our
curriculum starts with the building of a peaceable classroom community
where children interact with other in a respectful and empowering way.
It involves integrating mutual respect, responsibility, safety, trust,
and cooperation into all aspects of the classroom.
We follow the district curriculum and state standards for English
Language Arts and Mathematics. Our students enjoy reading different
genres of literature to further develop their comprehension skills
through the Reading Workshop model. As writers, our students write daily
across the curriculum focusing on organization and developing ideas
through elaboration and use of voice. In Mathematics, students build an
understanding of concepts, develop operational
fluency, analyze number sequences, and conduct their own data
investigations for data analysis. Our science units include plant growth
and development, rocks and minerals and habitats utilizing kits. Our
social studies units covers the study of the history of Cambridge and
the early history of Boston.
Some special events for our grade include visits from the Cambridge
Historical Society, our field trips to The Old South Meeting House, Paul
Revere's House, Plimouth Plantation Harvard Museum of Natural History
and our annual camping trip to Cape Cod Sea Camp.
