Attendance Policy
Regular attendance – coming to school on time, every day – is essential to successful scholarship. The school day starts at 8:40AM. Students should arrive at 8:40AM to
allow time to put away their belongs and go to the their classrooms.
Instruction begins at 8:55AM. Students must be in their classrooms
before the 8:55AM bell rings. If a student is late or absent, notify the
Main Office at 617.349.6525 x100. You may also notify the student’s
classroom teacher. View the CPS Student Attendance Policy.
Reporting an Absence Due to Illness or Family Emergency
If a student misses school unexpectedly due to illness or a family emergency, a parent or guardian must call or write the Main Office (617.349.6525 x100) to explain the reason for the absence. Students who are sick for more than three days should bring a doctor’s note explaining the absence.
Reporting Other Absences
In the case of a planned absence, a parent or guardian must call the Main Office to give notice at 617.349.6525 x100. The student is responsible for getting homework assignments. In the case of an extended absence, a parent or guardian must contact the principal and teacher(s) to arrange for the student to meet academic requirements. According to regulations of the Cambridge Public School system, a student who is absent from school for more than 10 days without explanation may be unenrolled.
Tardiness
School
begins at 8:40AM. Classroom instruction begins at 8:55AM. Students
arriving after 8:55AM are late for school. Students who arrive late
should check in at the Main Office to be sure their arrival is recorded
in the attendance records. (Please note: If a bus arrives late, students
will not be marked tardy.) A student who is chronically late will be
referred to the Office of the Cambridge School Department Court Liaison.
Leaving School During the Day
If a student needs to leave school during school hours (for example, to
go to a dentist appointment), a parent or guardian must notify the
office by phone or in writing. An adult must come and pick up the
student. The school cannot allow students to leave the building on their
own during the school day, no matter the age of the student.
