Welcome Marcy

Welcome Marcy
Posted on 12/19/2019
Look who came to the art show opening! Our longtime staff member, Ms. Curry was recently matched with a service dog, Marcy. Marcy is a NEADS trained dog. NEADS is an organization that provides service dogs directly for people with a disability, but they also train assistance dogs for schools, hospitals, religious ministries and courthouses. The assistance dogs for schools are “...trained in specific tasks that teachers can incorporate into their classroom teaching. The training also ensures that they are always under the control of the handler...” We welcome the Classroom Assistance Dog to our school to benefit the growth and experience of our learners. We are excited about this opportunity. Research supports the introduction of service dogs into school settings and we are excited about the impacts and benefits that so many will experience from this opportunity.

From Ms. Curry:
I think it speaks to our commitment to the Baldwin Core Values of Community, Care, Growth, Effort, and Joy to bring a Classroom Assistance Dog to the Baldwin School. It would encompass the ideas of support, commitment, and sense of belonging. Most importantly, a dog is a four-legged embodiment of joy. Joy is what makes the Baldwin so special.
