Dear Baldwin Community,
I’m excited to write a message to our Baldwin community for our first monthly newsletter! Baldwin school is
strong and we are finding so much joy as we transition back into in-person learning at 85 Oxford Street!
While some of the routines differ from 2019, we have seen how the love and spirit of the Baldwin community are adaptable to just about any situation.
We work every day to try and live our mission of Joy, Belonging, Challenge and Growth for every student, every day. This means we must understand who our children are and work to give them what they need.
A community challenge this month is to think about the difference between “equity” and “equality.” When we think about equity vs. equality, one helpful analogy can be thinking about everyone in the community getting a pair of shoes. When we think of
equality, we think of everyone getting a pair of the same shoes. When we think of
equity, we think of everyone getting a pair of shoes that
fit them! My goal is to lead this school with equity always in mind--giving each student what they need. We want Baldwin to fit student needs like a really great pair of shoes! We want to feel like home to each of you. Please let us know if you have ideas for how we can do that better and ensure that each child knows that he, she or they belong at Baldwin School.
Thanks for supporting your children through a great start. Keep in touch!
Warmly,
Heidi Cook
