Dear Baldwin Community,

Our school is doing well in so many areas. We have so much to celebrate! We've been seeing growth for all of our students and we are proud of our plans for supporting students who are below grade level.

While we are doing well in many ways, we always have areas for improvement. Each year, we have a School Improvement Plan that gives us a roadmap for improving. I?d like to share the improvement areas with you in this message. I also want to let you know about opportunities to discuss these improvement goals at upcoming School Council meetings.

Here are the priority goals we have for this year:

  1. We will strengthen partnerships with caregivers and use new strategies to reduce chronic absenteeism and improve student attendance.
  2. Our Equity Team will conduct a self-assessment with multiple stakeholders and perspectives and use the information to design and lead professional development for staff that will help us ensure more equitable practices and be more inclusive.
  3. We will increase math achievement for all students, with a particular focus on supporting our low-income students to meet grade level standards.
  4. We will utilize our school-based teams to ensure effective systems of support and goal-oriented plan-making for each student performing below expectations in Math, English Language Arts (ELA), and social-emotional learning skills (SEL).
  5. We will implement a schoolwide social-emotional learning (SEL) Curriculum called Second Step so we have consistent SEL practices schoolwide. We will include home connections in the Second Step curriculum rollout.

I hope these goals feel meaningful and important to you as you think about our community. These goals are based on input from School Council meetings and the data that we gather about student needs.

I invite you to join us at upcoming virtual School Council meetings where we'll have a chance to discuss each goal with the following schedule:

January 19: Goals 1 and 5 (Attendance, SEL Curriculum)
February 16: Goal 2 (Equity Self-Assessment)
March 16: Goals 3 and 4 (Academic Support and Math Achievement)
