Author Amanda Foody Visits Baldwin SchoolTuesday morning, third grade classes 312 and 315 were so fortunate to have a special virtual author visit with local author Amanda Foody who created The Wilderlore series. Mrs. Kugel and Ms. Lili hosted the visits during their class time. Porter Square Books generously sponsored the visit and provided a free hardcover copy for each student of her newest book The Weeping Tide which was released that day! Thank you to the Porter Square Books foundation which continually works to connect students with authors and put books into student's hands.

Ms. Foody held a captive audience as she described how she was inspired by her love for Pokemon and her desire to create a magical world with animal characters who held special powers. In her world, children who bond with the magical animals become magical themselves. She walked students through the process of coming up with the idea for the series - talking about character, setting, conflict and theme. To keep students engaged, she had each student draw their own magical creature, give it powers, a habitat, and assign it a role in the world. Students were able to ask the author questions and share their drawings with her through the google meet platform.

Students can’t wait to dive into their new books and there is already a library wait list for the first book, The Accidental Apprentice. Please try to support Porter Square Books when possible as it is local businesses like them who make these opportunities available to our students!
