At STEM club, the kids make, build and have fun. STEM Club meets on Friday mornings, 8 - 8:40AM in the library for students in grades 2 - 5. Baldwin Parent Todd Zickler kicked off STEM Club with motion pictures, a simple and fun activity using elastic bands. The club continued to explore elastic energy and made a Popsicle stick catapult, launching small pom-poms.
There are a lot of fun, hands-on activities planned for this fall. The kids will make a catapult and rubber band cars to learn about elastic energy. Then they will explore other types of energy by making roller coasters, a big hit last year. Older students will have a chance to extend each activity with a fun challenge, and are also welcome to step up and take leadership roles by helping the younger children. The students had so much fun making Popsicle stick catapults that they will repeat the activity, refining their design to make their catapult shoot further or higher, and hit their target more accurately. Parent volunteers are needed to make STEM Club a success. No prior experience necessary, just wanting to help your child learn by building, making and doing. Please come and explore STEM with your child! Parent volunteers are needed throughout the year, so if fall is busy, you'll have plenty of chances in winter or spring.
