Great Skate for 208!

Room 208, Mr. O'Connor's first grade classroom, took a trip to the Simoni Rink in East Cambridge to take part in the Fun Skate program sponsored by the Cambridge Department of Human Services Program under the direction of Bobby Goodwin. After arriving at the rink, all students were fitted with skates and helmets and ran through a pre-skate warm-up activity in the lobby. Once on the ice, the group was split according to their skating ability and experience. New or inexperienced skaters worked on the fundamentals of getting up from the ice after a fall, keeping your balance on the skates, and, of course, how to skate. Soon every first grader, along with teacher and parent chaperones, were making their way around the rink. Every student set a goal for themselves, and they all worked very hard! Some comments made by first graders were, "I will not give up," "When I fall, I just get right back up," and "I liked helping other people with their skating." It was such a fun and wonderful field trip.
