Baldwin Participates in Heifer International's Read to Feed Program

Read to FeedK217 was interested in learning about food people eat in different places. After learning more about food people eat and learning about the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we discovered everyone has the right to eat healthy food. We also read Beatrice’s Goat by Page McBrier and realized some people do not have healthy food to eat.

We wanted to do something to help people get healthy food. We decided to start Heifer International’s Read to Feed Program at the Baldwin School with the help of our librarian Karin Kugel. Through Read to Feed Baldwin students are challenged to read 5,000 hours in five weeks, from March 13th to April 17th. Students will be learning about people who lack basic access to food nutrition, agriculture, and the mission of Heifer International. Students will be able to collect pledges and sponsors of their reading and donate the money raised towards Heifer International. We will set a school wide goal of providing a Milk Menagerie (two goats, a water buffalo, and a quality-breed heifer) for a family. K 217 is excited to lead the school in this initiative.
