Hour of Code

Hour of Code

Students at the Baldwin School participated in the nationwide 'Hour of Code' initiative. The initiative introduces computer programming to students and encourages them to learn about computer programming. Mr. Beucler, Baldwin Technology teacher, worked with all grade levels doing different activities, opening minds to the possibilities of coding.

Kindergartners in Ms. Della Calce's and Mrs. O'Leary's classroom learned to write code using Scratchjr. Scratchjr is an introductory programming language. Students create their own interactive stories and games, piecing together code that move characters making them move, jump and dance. There is a paint editor allowing them to personalize their characters. Coding encourages students to solve problems and develops sequencing skills, math skills and spatial relationships. Scratchjr is available as a free iPad application. You can download it from the Apple App Store.
