Cider Pressing
Posted on 10/18/2017
If it’s October, it is cider pressing month at the Baldwin. Our garden coordinator Michele Kaufman works with classrooms in the garden doing cider pressing. Students participating in every step of the process; washing, cutting, mashing, pressing, and finally tasting! They learn that it is hard work making cider. They have to use their strong muscles to turn the mashing wheel and using the press crank.
Students are also beginning to prepare the garden for winter. They are harvesting beets and carrots and planting winter rye.
Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help with cider pressing. Thank you to Michele Lower, Beverly Kennedy, Bernette Dawson and Robin Chen.
