Kindergarten Music Students in the Spotlight

adam and studentsOn Saturday, November 19, students from K212 converged at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School to participate in a special demonstration music lesson observed by area music teachers. The event, co-sponsored by the CPS Visual and Performing Arts Department, the Kodály Music Institute, and Boston Area Kodály Educators--was organized as a professional development workshop for practicing music educators. Because of the Baldwin's strong reputation for quality music education, Mr. Epstein was invited to bring K212 to show a model kindergarten music lesson using the Kodály concept.*

Later in the day, older students from Tobin Montessori School and the Peabody School demonstrated lessons with their respective teachers, as well. The students from K212 did amazing work, cooperated, listened, and sang beautifully together, inspiring tremendous praise from the observers. In attendance at the event were Alan and Suzanne Dworsky of the Popplestone Foundation, a major supporter of Kodály music education programs in the Cambridge Public Schools. Also attending was Dr. Mary Epstein (no relation to Adam), the president of the National Organization of American Kodály Educators. Special thanks to Ms. Kristin, Ms. Linda, and to all the families from K212 who made this success possible!
